Mike’s Beer Press Release 22 June 2016
Mike’s Beer, New Zealand’s oldest real craft brewery, is about to undergo a major restructure which will see the establishment of three new divisions under a new company, Mike’s Holdings Ltd, and the voluntary liquidation of the current trading company, White Cliffs Organic Brewery Ltd.

Mike’s Beer was established in 1989 by Mike Johnson under the name White Cliffs Organic Brewery.
Mike built the original shed and started brewing his signature brew, mike’s Mild Ale with the first product also released in 1989.
As a small player in the beer market, it was a tough business to be in as there were no malt suppliers or packaging companies willing to deal with such a small start-up. But perseverance and craft beer won out and the business began to grow.

In 2003 Mike Johnson sold the business to Steve Ekdahl and Sharron Cottam who increased the beer range to two beers, later selling the business in 2007 to the Trigg family.
Since the Trigg family took over, Mike’s Beer has gone on to craft a wide range of beers winning multiple awards, as well as continually expanding the brewery and its capacity so as to keep up with the rapidly growing demand.

Voluntary Liquidation of White Cliffs Organic Brewery Ltd
As part of the group restructure, White Cliffs Organic Brewery Ltd will cease trading and will be placed in voluntary liquidation effective from 22 June 2016.  This step was not taken lightly, but after exploring a range of options, this course was determined to be the one that will best enable the group to move forward and continue doing what it does best – crafting great beer.  John Scutter of Fervor Limited has been appointed as the liquidator.
Mike’s Holdings Limited and the Trigg family are working with the appointed liquidator to ensure that the brewing and delivery of Mike’s Beers to its customers continues uninterrupted.
All customers and suppliers of Mike’s Beer have been notified of these changes.

The Future
Mike’s Beer is excited about future prospects. Mike’s Holdings Limited will be working with the liquidators to ensure continuity of supply to the market place.
mike's as a brand continues to grow and these changes will ensure they continue to produce world class craft beers for at least another 27 years!
